The daughter of environmental activists raised on a remote
eco-friendly homestead, Mother of Pearl designer Amy Powney
always felt out of place in the fashion world. When she wins the
coveted Vogue award for the Best Young Designer of the Year,
which comes with a big cash prize, Amy decides to use the
money to create a sustainable collection from field to finished
garment and transform her entire business. Powney’s journey
takes her from Uruguayan sheep pastures to an Austrian
garment factory powered by steam, exposing the mind-boggling

complexity and waste of the global supply chain. An eye-
