Presented by Build Safe Vermont: This six-hour course will cover the basics of the International Residential Code (IRC), the foundational building code for residential construction in the United States, as well as Vermont’s Residential Building Energy Standards (RBES). The course is intended for homebuilders, designers, and zoning/building officials.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course you will be able to:
1. Understand the organization of the IRC and its basic principles, and be able to apply the IRC’s critical concepts and provisions to projects.
2. Understand what aspects of residential construction Vermont regulates for single- and multi-family homes.
3. Understand and apply the International Energy Code (IECC) as it appears in the 2021 IRC.
4. Understand 2020 RBES amendments to the IECC.
5. Understand and apply 2020 RBES to new projects and renovations. Topics include building science fundamentals, building materials choice and characteristics, and mechanical and ventilation systems.

Registration is $50 for Vermont building officials and $65 for all other participants. The fee includes a continental breakfast, lunch and drinks, 6 CE credits, and a 1-year membership in the ICC Building Safety Association of Vermont.
