The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has started phasing down high global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants, including HFCs like R-410a. In the coming years, restrictions will go into effect for new equipment and the supply of legacy refrigerants. At the same time, carbon mandates throughout the country will result in increased use of refrigerant-based HVAC, codes will change to allow lower-GWP refrigerants, and manufacturers will introduce new technologies that meet GWP limitations.
Given these many moving parts, the HVAC and refrigeration industries will change rapidly over the next 10 years. In this session, the presenters will address impacts on building owners and HVAC-R contractors, including cost, technical practices, training and certification, and more. They will focus on preparing for and riding the wave of changes that will ripple through the industry, and participants will leave with a checklist to get their business ready for what’s coming.
