Understanding your client’s lighting needs helps inform not only the lighting design, but also the process needed to achieve the intended results. Who develops the lighting schedule plays a major role in the results, and whether you have to settle for a package VE’d by the contractor.
1) Learn about different grades of lighting and the effect on cost.
2) Gain insight into the danger in issuing a generic/or equal lighting spec.
3) Develop an understanding of the various layers of reps, suppliers, contractors, and project management, and how they affect lighting cost.
4) Learn about a more effective options for specifying and purchasing lighting designed to meet both design and budget requirements.
