AIAVT Announces Recipients of 2024 Scholarships
At the AIAVT Annual Meeting event on December 5th, the recipients of this year’s scholarship awards were announced. The AIAVT Scholarship awards are made possible through the Hanne N. Williams Scholars Fund, which derives support from the AIAVT Annual Guy Teschmacher Memorial Golf Tournament, the Pella + Purpose program, the AIA National Component Matching Grant Program, and other sources. The winners of this year’s scholarship awards are:
- Robert Brady Award: One award per year is awarded to a Vermont State University student who has demonstrated excellence in their undergraduate work. This award is made possible with a matching grant from AIA. Chosen by VSU faculty, the Robert S. Brady Award is given to the sophomore student who has shown the greatest all-around academic achievement in the Associate of Science in Architectural Engineering Technology program. Robert Brady is a former AIAVT member and professor of architecture at VSU (formerly VTC).
- The 2024 Robert S. Brady Award winner is Ayden Lapoint
- Ruth Freeman Award: One award per year is awarded to a Vermont State University student who has demonstrated excellence in their undergraduate work. Chosen by VSU faculty, the Ruth Freeman Award is given to the student in the ABET Program whose work in Architectural Design I has exhibited architectural design excellence. The award is given in memory of Vermont’s first female architect and president of AIAVT.
- The 2024 Ruth Freeman Award Winner is Josh Mather
- Norwich Honor Award Winners: Awarded to Norwich University students who have demonstrated excellence in their undergraduate work, this award is made possible with a matching grant from AIA. Winners are selected by a committee of Norwich University faculty members at the end of the Fall semester. The recipients are announced at the AIAVT Annual Meeting & Design Awards event each December.

- The 2024 Norwich Honor Award Winners are:
- Scholar Promise Award: Awarded to a graduating high school student who has been accepted to an accredited architecture program in the United States. This scholarship is administered through the Vermont Student Assistance Corp (VSAC).
- This year's Scholar Promise Award winner is Emma Thomas
- Best In Show: Awarded to a graduating thesis student from Norwich University who has shown excellence in their post-graduate thesis work. This award is given at the discretion of the AIA Vermont Board of Directors based on their review of the thesis projects at the close of the Spring semester.
- The 2024 Winner of the Best in Show Award went to the project “Death of Architecture” by Gina Basiliere
- Honorable Mention went to “Entres Casa” by Neroly Mora
