Architects:
Kiel Moe is a practicing architect and the Gerald Sheff Professor of Architecture at McGill University, previously Associate Professor at Harvard GSD. He has received the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Helsinki; the Gorham Stevens Rome Prize in Architecture at the American Academy in Rome, the Architecture League of New York Prize, and the American Institute of Architects National Young Architect Award. He has published several books: Wood Urbanism: From the Molecular to the Territorial; Empire, State & Building; Insulating Modernism: Isolated and Non-Isolated Thermodynamics in Architecture; Convergence: An Architectural Agenda for Energy; and Thermally Active Surfaces in Architecture.
Jesse Thompson is an award-winning architect who has become a national leader in green building design. A partner at Kaplan Thompson Architects in Portland, he is a President Elect of Maine AIA and a LEED Accredited Professional. He grew up in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, received his BArch from the University of Oregon, and now lives with his family in the Deering Center neighborhood of Portland.
Shari Vaccarella, AIA, recently became a licensed architect in Vermont. She has been working for McLeod Kredell Architects in Middlebury since 2012. During this time, she took a year sabbatical in Boston working for Paul Lukez Architecture, where she was the project manager. Her prior employment includes working for Alain Youkel in Burlington and Sam Scofield in Stowe. She attended the University of Louisiana where she received her Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Science.
Scott Simons, FAIA, Principal and Founder of Scott Simons Architects, leads his 11 person studio in Portland, Maine. A graduate of Dartmouth College and University of Pennsylvania, Simons has practiced architecture for over 30 years. His firm has created the award-winning design for the Portland Public Library, Casco Bay Ferry Terminal, the Waynflete Arts Center, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, and Patrons Oxford Insurance Company, among many others. Scott was a Founder and President of the Portland Society of Architects and is a member of the Board of Maine AIA.
