Norwich Lecture Series: Dr. Tara Dudley

Norwich University School of Architecture is thrilled to announce an upcoming
lecture by Dr. Tara Dudley. The lecture is titled "Free People of Color in Antebellum New Orleans:
Creating Community through Architecture” and will be held Friday, February 9, at 4:00 p.m. in Chaplin
Hall.
Dr. Tara Dudley is an assistant professor at The University of
Texas at Austin School of Architecture. She holds a PhD in
Architecture from The University of Texas at Austin (2012), an
MS in Architectural Studies (Historic Preservation) from The
University of Texas at Austin (2003), and a BA in Art History
from Princeton University (1999). With a background in art
history and historic preservation, she brings a unique
perspective to her research and teaching. Dr. Dudley's work
focuses on the contributions of African American builders and
architects to the American built environment, particularly
during the antebellum and Reconstruction eras. Her
interdisciplinary approach combines the study of cultural
resources, nineteenth-century American design, African
American architectural history, historic preservation, and
material culture.
