AIAVT invites members and colleagues to participate in a buildings tour and educational presentations at Norwich University's campus. The University is currently undergoing a large project involving the renovations of Webb, Dewey, and Ainsworth Halls, and construction of the new Mack Hall, the centerpiece of the tour. Mack Hall features include interactive classrooms, case-study spaces, pocket lounges, and an auditorium and performing arts center. Tours and presentations to be led by architects from Jones Architecture (Design Architect) and Freeman French Freeman (Architect of Record), contractors, engineers, and others involved in the project.This event will include a buildings tour and three educational presentations focused on the historic preservation of Ainsworth, Webb, and Dewey Halls; the new construction of Mack Hall; and the conceptualization of the Memorial Plaza, Centennial Grove, and Link Courtyards —all structures on the Norwich University campus built to LEED Silver specifications. This project tour will include presentations on: how the architects approached site design across a complex topography, landscaping with native species, placemaking on a university quad to organize space and shape the student and visitor experience, and the strategies employed in the restoration of historical masonry buildings and new masonry construction. Additionally, one presentation will focus on modern technologies for audiovisual collaboration and presentation in classroom, theater, and special applications.Learn about the innovative solutions used to approach the redesign of historic buildings, hear from the project's architects and earn 3 LU's (HSW). The event will end with a social in the library with cash bar, complimentary hors d'oeuvres, and networking.
