Glazing Strategies for Sound Control
1 AIA/CES LU
1 Contact Hour 1 Hour of Health/Safety/Welfare
Learning Objectives:
• Learn why a sound control strategy matters in project design.
• Learn basic sound properties, how they are measured, and basic principles for
controlling unwanted noise.
• Explore glazing solutions that provide sound control.
• Learn why site-specific acoustical testing may be necessary.
Program Description: As noise pollution continues to become a growing health
concern, strategies to control sound in both residential and non-residential building
design have also increased in importance. This course examines the significance of
sound control strategies and how they can improve the health and well-being of
individuals by increasing comfort, workplace productivity, reducing stress, and
allowing for proper rest. The acoustic attenuation properties of fenestration
products are important factors to consider when designing new buildings or
remodeling existing ones. Discussions on site-specific testing, STC and OITC ratings,
and real-world examples will leave attendees with a better understanding of how a
strong sound control strategy is important for the success of a project.
